Artisan Incas (Artesanias Incas)

Jujuy artísans come from mountainous regions clóse to the sky, like Puna, Quebrada de Humahuaca, . Their work is based on ancient knowledge handed down from generation to generation.

Living in small mountain villages, or towns tucked in the rainforest, they work in settings where the altitude ranges between 8,000 and 16,000 feet. The air up there has 20% less oxygen, and temperatures vary between 68 degrees during the day, to minus 22 degrees fahrenheit at night

All of these pieces are hand-made using natural processes and materials. The wool and linens are hand spun and died with herbs and natural dies. The earthenware is made using ancestral techniques, fired not in a kiln, but in open sky fíres to burn the pottery.

Provenientes de la Puna, de la Quebrada de Humahuaca o de la Selva, , en el norte de la República Argentina, los artesanos jujeños recuperan técnicas ancestrales trabajando muy cerca del cielo, a alturas que van desde los 2.500 a los 5.000 m.

En estas comarcas la atmósfera tiene un 20% menos de oxígeno. Durante el día la temperatura es de 20°C y de -30°C durante la noche.

Todos los pasos del proceso de elaboración de estas artesanías son realizados con técnicas artesanales y con productos de origen natural: desde el esquilado de los animales, el hilado, el teñido con hierbas naturales y el tejido a mano o en telar artesanal, o el cocido de las vasijas de cerámica en fogatas a cielo abierto.

Este catálogo muestra la variada producción de artesanías de la Provincia de Jujuy, Su intención es llevar al mundo la cultura de nuestra gente y permitir, con su compra, que nuestros artesanos puedan continuar trabajando y que estas tradiciones se mantengan.
